Shells on Beach

Summer Time is Fun Time

Vacation time is still in full swing for everyone.  There are so many amazing things to do when the kids are out of school and you know that you are taking photos of each and every fun adventure.  When you come home from that vacation then you want to upload all the photos to your computer, arrange them in a good organizing software and then you are ready to print them, or put them into a digital book.

I was reading an article from Digital Photography School and their challenge this week was to take pictures of different things at the Beach!   What would you take a photo of?  Here are some suggestions:

  • the beach and sand
  • pathways
  • clouds and sky
  • rocks
  • sea shells
  • marine life
  • kids playing in the sand
  • sand castle

It is amazing the things you can find on the beach when you are really looking!  A few years ago I was in Mexico and took a photo of the beach full of shells.  Had fun with that photo in a scrapbook later when I made a book about that vacation.

Drum & Bugle Corp Example of books that can be made for your organization.

Summer brings many fun activities to North Texas families, and here are some fun ways to document those fun times!

1.  Community Groups:  are your kids involved in a summer sport (softball, soccer, swim) and you want to keep memories of the team and how they improved over the season, this is a great way to do that.

2.  Church Groups:  how about putting together church directory of the members and activities, maybe the mission trip members are taking.

3.  Class Reunions:  Summer is the time for all those high school and college reunions, these books are fun to do and can also be a fun raiser for the next scheduled reunion.

4.  School Yearbooks:  School is out for the summer, but thinking ahead to the fall and when school starts up again, class yearbooks are not just for the higher grades anymore.  Think about pre-school or grade schools and putting together something for those classes too.

If you need help with any of these projects you can contact me, Sue Thornton, at sue@memoriesbysue.net or visiting my website www.photoorganizingsolutions.net or call me at 469.544.9525 and I will be happy to help you with suggestions.  Photo Organizing Solutions will provide all clients a professional service with integrity, creativity and honesty to help organize your memories.

Do you have ONE system either in your computer for digital photos, or a system of organizing your printed photos?

Organizing is easy as the ABCs!!

Where do you start if organizing digital photos?

  1. Choose your software - find a program that is easy to understand and use
  2. Sort your photos
  3. Organize by theme/chronologically {whatever makes sense to you and STICK with it}

There are great organizing tools either in your computer or that you can purchase through Photo Organizing Solutions.  If you want a software that has facial recognition, is easy to learn and can handle thousands of photos, I would suggest that you look at Historian (registered trademark) Software.  There is a link on my website where you can check it out and even give it a try FREE for 30 days.

Where do you start if organizing printed photos?

Basically you will start in much the same way as above, but using the ABCs method.

A - stands for Album - these photos are your most important and belong in an album.

B - stands for Box  -  important enough to keep stored in archive quality boxes for long term storage.

C - stands for Can - Yes you can put these in the 'trash can' or delete from your computer.  These would be duplicates, blurry or unflattering photos, etc.

S - stands for Story - does that photo tell a STORY?  Keep any photos that clearly tell a story that needs to be remembered by family members in the future.

Do your photos look like this?

My new business is called - Photo Organizing Solutions.  To establish this business, I joined APPO, the Association of Personal Photo Organizers.  The purpose of my business is to help develop solutions to photo problems that encumber people's lives.

Almost overnight negatives and film were replaced with digital cameras and we gained the ability to snap hundreds of photos in an instant.  It is very easy to quickly become overwhelmed with the sheer number of photos we take and find that the images linger on our cameras, computers and phones as well as taking up more than their fair share of memory along with them!  In addition, the pictures that we do manage to print and all of those printed prior to the digital camera era, are usually still in boxes, bins and bags.

Organizing photos can be an intimidating and time-consuming task and one we tend to think can only be done by us alone, however most of us long to someday "tackle" this task because it is so worthwhile to preserve memories and have the ability to share them with others.

That is where I would love to come into the picture (sorry!).  I can help you with ALL of your photo needs, whether digital or traditional.

Where do you keep your photos? PC or MAC?
