It’s almost time for the biggest game of the year. The stage is set for the Seahawks and Broncos showdown on Feb. 2 (plus you can’t forget about the Red Hot Chili Peppers/Bruno Mars halftime performance), and it’s not too soon to make plans about where you’re going to watch the game.
Personally, I’m a fan of the relaxed Super Bowl house party—you know, the ones with chicken wings, chips and dip, brownie bites… all the worst stuff you can consume. This year, though, I’m thinking about venturing off the couch and into one of Dallas-Fort Worth’s hot spots to view the Super Bowl (commercials). Here are a few of our suggestions for where you should go:
Breadwinners—So, it’s not one that you would immediately think of as a prime football-watching destination, but think about it: delicious entrees (chicken and waffles, anyone?), delectable bakery items/desserts and a full bar? With locations at Inwood Village, in Plano, NorthPark Center and Uptown, Breadwinners is a classy but mellow, kid-friendly place to watch the game. If you’re in Uptown with a 21+ crowd, Quarter Bar next to Breadwinners has several levels and rooms to watch the Super Bowl, plus good drink specials. For more information, click here.
Chicken Scratch—Have you seen the patio on this place? It just makes you feel cool, and it's a perfect space for little ones to run around in. Not to mention, this place has off-the-charts-fantastic fried chicken and sides. Fried chicken and football—I don’t think it could possibly get any better. Plus, Chicken Scratch is right next door to The Foundry bar, stocked with plenty of local beer options. Dogs are allowed in the courtyard at Chicken Scratch/The Foundry as another incentive. Fan Bowl at the Truck Yard—For some pre-Super Bowl fun to get you amped up for the game, head down to Lower Greenville’s Truck Yard area (a trendy food truck park) for the Paper Football Tournament and Fan Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 7 p.m. to midnight. 105.3 The Fan is sponsoring the free event, complete with plenty of beer options and an adults-only tree house. Prizes are available for the paper football game winners. The next night, grab a bite at the Truck Yard before watching the Super Bowl at any Lower Greenville options, like The Libertine Bar, Company Cafe or Blue Goose. Ft. Worth Stockyards—With plenty to do in the historic stockyards, it’d be ideal to make a day of Super Bowl Sunday hanging out in the petting zoo, shopping for all your cowboy gear and "grubbing" at any of the stockyard’s dining options. In the evening, head over to the Love Shack, Cattlemen’s Steak House or Billy Bob’s to watch the Broncos take on the Seahawks. For more information, click here.
Granada Theater—This party isn’t family-friendly, but it is free. Head to the Granada's huge Super Bowl watching party starting at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 2. No cover, $1 pizza slices and sliders, plus a massive screen—need I say more? Click here for more information.
Katy Trail Ice House—This restaurant and bar located right on the Katy Trail in Uptown is more for the under-35 clientele, but I imagine the crowd will be a bit more varied on Super Bowl Sunday. With its plethora of TVs and food and drink options, Katy Trail Ice House is a prime place to watch football—especially the Super Bowl. For more information, click here.
Studio Movie Grill—K104 and the Northwest Highway Studio Movie Grill location are teaming up to throw a Big Game Bash on Feb. 2 where they’ll be offering free food and prizes. Doors will be open at 3 p.m. that day. For more information, click here.
The Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge—One of my personal favorite live music venues in Fort Worth is also just a good place to hang with friends. Eat dinner, grab a drink and cheer on your team in the lounge, and take stretch breaks up on the rooftop. For more information, click here.
The Rustic—For a rustic yet upscale evening, stop into The Rustic and enjoy some “down home” appetizers (made with all local ingredients) and drinks (plenty of Texas beers and spirits to choose from!) in their “backyard.” I keep hearing that The Rustic is the place to be and be seen.
