More than a dozen officers from the Garland Police Department’s Community Police Unit took the ALS ice bucket challenge at Hawaiian Falls Garland on August 25. Dumping several 20 gallon bags of ice into the 1,000 gallon dump bucket in Keiki Kove, they bravely stood in knee-deep water while the icy water cascaded over them. The unit also donated more than $10 per officer to ALS and called out the Garland Police Department’s SWAT, Traffic and Narcotics divisions.

Hawaiian Falls Garland will host the 6th annual Wags & Waves event 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on September 13 benefiting
several animal rescue groups, including the Dallas Companion Animal Project, Feral Friends, Legacy Boxer Rescue, Cat Matchers and DFW Rescue Me. Wags and Waves gives families the opportunity to play in the pools with their dogs. The fun-filled event includes canine contests, love entertainment and demonstrations, celebrity emcees and unique vendors and crafts along with the opportunity to float down the Kona Kooler Lazy River and catch some waves in the Waikiki Beach Wave Pool with their dogs. As this is the final event of the 2014 summer season, the pools will be drained and prepared for winter after the event. Admission is $20 per person, which includes up to two dogs. All dogs must have complete, up-to-date vaccinations and current rabies shots, and must be spayed/neutered. Children two years of age and younger are admitted free.
