Bishop Lynch AquaFriars Close-Out Home Season with Impressive Showing

The Bishop Lynch AquaFriars closed out their home season this past Saturday, October 25, against John Paul II, Fort Worth Nolan and Dallas First Baptist.

The men’s team continues to show improvement, finishing 2nd in the 4 team field.  The Friar men were led by sophomore Will Eckles, who won the 200 yard Individual Medley and finished 2nd in the 100 yard backstroke, and by freshman Paul Pierce, who won the 50 yard freestyle and finished 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle.  Eckles and Pierce got help from:

  • Sophomore Sean O’Hare, who finished 2nd in the 50 yard freestyle in a personal best time of 27.03 seconds, and who finished 3rd in the 100 yard breaststroke;
  • Freshman Patrick Kersey, who finished 3rd in the 100 yard freestyle and 4th in the 200 yard freestyle; and
  • Sophomore Eric Bray, who finished 3rd in the 200 yard freestyle and 5th in the 100 yard backstroke

Eckles, Pierce, Bray and O’Hare combined to win the 200 yard freestyle relay in a season-best time of 1 minute, 45.21 seconds.  Pierce and Eckles combined with Kersey and Sophomore Will Seidel to finish 2nd in the 400 yard freestyle relay, and Bray, O’Hare and Seidel were joined by Freshman Killian Baker to finish 2nd in the 200 yard Medley Relay.

The Lady Friars had a good meet, winning the meet with 97 points, 44 points more than runner-up Nolan, with JPII in 3rd.  The Lady Friars were led by junior Jessica Jordan, who won the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 100 yard butterfly.  Jordan got support from:

  • Senior Captain Amy Hess, who won the 200 yard freestyle and was 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle;
  • Junior Jordan Carl, who won the 500 yard freestyle and was 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke;
  • Sophomore Bonnie Nolan, who led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 yard backstroke with fellow sophomores Jesseca Hageman and Niamh Tierney.  Tierney also swam a personal best time of 1 minute, 11,88 seconds in finishing 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly;
  • Senior Captain Grace Butler, who finished 2nd in both the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle;
  • Junior Shauna Seidel, who finished 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle and 3rd in the 200 yard freestyle; and
  • Senior Courtney Newman, who finished 2nd in the 200 yard Individual Medley

The Lady Friars also swept the three relays, with Newman, Carl, Jordan and Tierney winning the 200 yard Medley Relay, Butler, Carl, Nolan, and Hess joining to win the 200 yard Freestyle Relay, and Tierney, Nolan, Butler and Hess combining for victory in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay.

The AquaFriars will next be in action on Saturday, November 8 in the Cougar Classic at the Lewisville ISD Pool in The Colony.
