Presented by the Dr. Scott L. Engle Lecture Series
Join us for the inaugural event in this new lecture series featuring world-renowned theologian and author N.T. Wright
St. Andrew Methodist Church is proud to announce that world-renowned theologian and author N.T. Wright will be the inaugural speaker for the new Dr. Scott L. Engle Lecture Series on Wednesday, November 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the sanctuary at 5801 W. Plano Parkway in Plano, Texas. Wright will speak on themes of resurrection and hope in new creation, drawing from his decades of scholarship and ministry.
Professor Wright is a distinguished New Testament theologian, ordained Anglican Bishop, professor at the University of Oxford, and the author of more than 85 books. Known for his accessible and faithful explanations of the Christian message, Wright served as the Bishop of Durham from 2003 to 2010, one of the most senior positions in the Church of England. His unique combination of scholarly excellence, pastoral wisdom, and theological creativity has secured his legacy in 21st-century Christianity. Through his prolific writing and teaching, Wright invites believers into a renewed vision of the Kingdom of God – one that is ancient yet urgent, cosmic yet deeply personal.
The new lecture series honors Dr. Scott Engle, longtime teaching pastor at St. Andrew, who first encountered Wright’s work two decades ago through a cover story in Christianity Today.
“Reading about him led to my immediate curiosity in his writings,” said Dr. Engle. “He has been an integral part of my life and my teachings – and as an extension, part of St. Andrew’s life, our theology, and our approach to Scripture. He helps people see the larger story without getting lost in the trees. Wright is a gifted, prolific scholar who knows how to speak to regular people and help them embrace the truth of the Gospel.”
In addition to his academic work, Wright – also known as Tom Wright – is widely celebrated for his writing for general audiences. His books, which bridge the gap between academia and the church, have inspired countless readers to think deeply about the implications of Christian faith in everyday life.
“St. Andrew is thrilled to share this opportunity with the wider community,” said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor of St. Andrew. “For years, our pastors have admired Wright’s brilliant teaching. His frameworks make sense in today’s world while holding firm to the eternal truths of God. This is a rare and powerful opportunity. Don’t miss it!”
Tickets are available for $45 at www.standrewmethodist.org/calendar.

The Dr. Scott L. Engle Lecture Series, launched in 2024 at St. Andrew Methodist Church, was created in conjunction with an endowed directorship in Engle’s name at the Wesley House of Studies at Baylor University’s Truett Seminary. A beloved teaching pastor at St. Andrew for more than 20 years, Scott Engle has inspired thousands through his adult Bible studies, regular preaching, in-depth weekly study guides, and two popular Bible study podcasts that have reached nearly 100,000 downloads. He recently launched his newest project: a weekly Bible video blog called “Below the Surface.” This partnership with Truett Seminary supports the development of future clergy and strengthens ties between the church and the seminary. The Engle Lecture Series, developed in coordination with Truett, will bring in leading scholars and teachers who bring their theological insight to the congregation for purposes of equipping, discipling, and growing Biblical literacy. It represents a unique and exciting addition to Christian education at St. Andrew.
St. Andrew Methodist Church, founded in 1986, is located on 21.2 acres in Plano, Texas, and has more than 7,000 members. The church hosts over 2,000 people each weekend for worship services in both a traditional style with the classic pipe organ and a contemporary style with an LED center screen and lighting technology. St. Andrew extends an open invitation for all to be a part of a community ready to embrace faith in Christ that is real, practical, and life changing. Many opportunities are provided to gather on campus and serve locally, regionally, and globally. Through Invite Ministries, St. Andrew’s publishing house, and Beacon of Light, a mental health ministry, St. Andrew offers innovative ways to reach Christians within its congregation and out in the community. The new 300-seat Hasley Chapel provides worship and other gathering opportunities in a scenic and more intimate setting. In 2022 St. Andrew became an independent Methodist Church seeking to live more like Jesus every day and to learn in deeper ways what it means to follow His teachings, live in community, and serve the world. 5801 W.
