GARLAND, TEXAS PASTOR WILL BIKE RIDE FROM DALLAS TO SAN ANTONIO FOR YOUTH OBESITY AWARENESS -May 13, 2015.  Youth & Adult Obesity and Education cycling event June 28-July 2, 2015

Pastor Kenn Dixon of the Casalita Drive Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Garland Texas, has decided to bike ride from Dallas to San Antonio to bring awareness to the growing problem of youth and adult obesity in the southwest region of the United States.   He will be one of 20 other rides who will take part in the 1st Annual Tour de Youth Cycling event from June 28-July 2, 2015.  The Southwest Region Conference of Seventh-day Adventist is supporting the event that will travel over 325 miles to San Antonio, Texas to coincide with the 60th General Conference Session at the Alamodome in downtown San Antonio.

During this event, the cyclists will travel through the beautiful towns, hills, and back roads of Central Texas.  This five-day cycling adventure will bring awareness to a growing problem in Texas and the United States with youth and adult obesity.  Ten out of the 11 states that have increased rates of obesity are located in the south, and children between the ages of 2-19 are recording dangerous levels of obesity and unhealthy lifestyles choices.  With these statistics in hand, we have decided to say, “We need to do more.” Not only have we organized this cycling event, but we have conducted a “Biggest Loser event in DFW area, Walk/Bike-a-thon events at our schools in the region, various cooking shows, and the implementations of health events throughout the region.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has a strong emphasis on healthy life choices and being active in our communities, so the Southwest Region Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has organized this cycling event to encourage young people and adults to “get moving” and to live better for the future.

We feel that it is our duty to provide leadership explains, committed role models and wise decision making for a healthy future for the youth and communities we serve in.
